Ex-Mossad chief calls Ahmadinejad 'Israel's greatest gift'

Thu, 08/21/2008 - 11:00am

Great quote from Ephraim Halevy, the former head of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency:

Ahmadinejad is our greatest gift," Halevy told the Arab language television network Al-Hurra on Tuesday. "We couldn't carry out a better operation at the Mossad than to put a guy like Ahmadinejad in power in Iran."

Underscoring the point, the Iranian president wrote on his Web site Wednesday that Israel is a "germ of corruption" to be removed soon.

Isreal's Greatest Gift

Let's see, "germ of corruption" is in quotes, but "to be removed soon" isn't. I wonder why. Could it be that "to be removed soon" was concocted? Let's look further. The citation on this is the Israeli Ha'aretz, hardly a basic source, which in the same article gives us the thoroughly discredited (by Juan Cole and others) quote: "In 2005, Ahmadinejad said he believed Israel should be wiped off the map." So, yes, we can conclude that "to be removed soon" was a Ha'aretz invention, and so the "great quote" by the former head of Mossad is a giant pile of crap, and "Israel's greatest gift" today is actually FP Passport.

It's not Haaretz

The quote is actually from the Associated Press.

AP

Okay, then, my contentions are apparently correct, the charges against Ahmadinejad can't be supported by any basic source, just substitute AP for Ha'aretz in the above. Actually, Ha'aretz has a better reputation than the US MSM, particularly on Palestine. You shouldn't be blindly parroting the MSM, particularly on the rush to war with Iran, if you want to retain credibility on the web, should you.
