Why Now?

This video is five months old, made during the gas crisis with Ukraine. Posting it now without any mention of when it aired makes it seem a lot more hysterical than it actually was. The blogger here should explain why a song performed during a fairly intense international spat deserves to be presented as a sideshow to Eurovision.

Funny and ironic

For decades, we were supposed to fear the Soviet military behemoth, their anti-capitalist ideology and their pugnacious intentions across the globe.

Congratulations! We won the Cold War and now they practice capitalist arm-twisting.

The old commie menace may be missed, but we have Islamofascism to fill the paranoia void. Unfortunately, the Islamists don't have large regular armies and high-tech toys, so we can't as easily justify the bloated Pentagon budget.
